Read books, mangas or lyrics more easily
by Raphael
The Japanese Verbs module has been online for several months, and I said I'd improve it progressively.
So here is the announcement for the Japanese verbal Parser! What's that? This new feature is actually able to parse a verbal structure to fetch the infinitive form.
How is it useful? When learning Japanese, we often start with Kana, Kanji, some vocabulary. Quickly, we feel like learning real Japanese with texts, mangas, lyrics, etc. And suddenly, we realize that we don't know yet how Japanese verbs work, that we are unable to understand 飲んでほしい (nonde hoshii) or 走りたくなかったです (hashiritakunakatta desu). No problem, let's search in the dictionary. In the first case, not sure that you'll know that from "nonde", you actually need to look for "nomu" in the dictionary. And even if you already know verbs enough for that, not sure that you'll be able to understand "-te hoshii"...
Here comes the Parser to save your day. How does it work? You only need to type the structure you're looking for in romaji, kana or kanji! The tool will parse the structure, and will display all possible verbs matching your search. Besides, it will also indicate the form used (politeness, passive, want to do, etc.).
The Japanese Parser is still under development, I'll add more verbal structures so that it can detect many of them. Here are the forms already integrated:
- -masu (masen, mashita, etc.)
- TE form (食べて、乗って, etc.)
- TA form (話した、泳いだ, etc.)
- -reru (passive)
- -seru (causative)
- -serareru (causative passive)
- -tai (takunai, takatta, etc. want to do)
- -te iru (inai, imasu, etc. progressive / durative action)
- -te hoshii (want someone to do)
- -te kudasai (polite imperative)
- -nasai (superieur to inférieur imperative)
- conditional forms (to, ba, tara, nara)
- -te mo ii (can / be allowed to)
- -te miru (try to do)
- kamoshirenai (it may be)
- koto ga dekiru (can / to be able to do)
The module for Japanese Verbs is usually available to Samurai members only. But I'll open it to everyone for free for a few days so that you can try it.
ShinSensei
The module you made for the Particles works super fast. Especially, on my phone. I can just look it up and BAM, 分かった!!
My problem is laziness and finding out a good schedule to practice. Classes and curriculums are good because of accountability and the fact it's the same time every day or week. J-A Sensei has the materials and curriculum, I just need accountability...Bad me bad.
Element
Dono (or the variant tono) sounds a little odd in spoken speech but is more formal than san suffix.
HANABAM
and sorry for posting it in here.
i talked too much. soredewa matane.
Element
The suffix -dono is archaic. It was originally used between nobles or adressed towards a noble or a samouraï like "Lord". Nowadays it is rarely used in modern Japanese except in very formal cases like written correspondances. You also can hear it in jidaigeki.
HANABAM
i have question. but it is not about this page. whrere can i use the prefix "dono"?

Have you started learning hiragana and katakana ?
That's the first step when you learn japanese.
Then, I recommend you studying the lessons of the site to get used to basical grammar. Don't hesitate posting your questions at the bottom of each lesson's page. If the lessons are not enough, just have a look to others sections (grammar, particles, kanji...), you'll find useful contents ;).
HANABAM
but for me as newbe for this site it is a few confusing to understand how should i start the learning process. actually my first language is not english and i have a few problem with finding my self in the site.
but i have a suggestion for Shiryu. you can make preview/training/travel movie of the site. and you can put in the home page. even you can make a flv version of it to make it light. or you can make this move for each parts of the site. of course it may make site heavy.
and ...
thanks again.
